PCC  414 Emergency  Procedures

WHEN A POWER FAILURE IS OBSERVED ON-SITE:

 

  1. STAY CALM
  2. TAKE NOTE OF THE TIME
  3. TAKE NOTE OF WHETHER THE POWER OUTAGE IS LOCAL TO THE BUILDING ONLY, OR AFFECTING THE SURROUNDING AREA. IF ONLY THE BUILDING IS AFFECTED CONTACT MANAGEMENT FOR GUIDANCE. IF THE WHOLE AREA IS AFFECTED CONTACT ENERSOURCE FOR CLARIFICATION. THE ENERSOURCE PHONE NUMBER IS IN THE PHONE DIRECTORY, THE SITE INFORMATION PAGES AND HERE.
  4. THE EMERGENCY GENERATOR SHOULD START WITHIN 1-2 MINUTES. NOT ALL SYSTEMS WILL BE POWERED. THE ELEVATORS WILL EACH COME ON AND THEN GROUND TO ALLOW PASSENGERS TO EXIT, THEN ONE ELEVATOR AT A TIME WILL PROVIDE SERVICE. EACH ELEVATOR PROVIDING SERVICE WILL RUN FOR APPROXIMATELY 15-20 MINUTES AND WILL THEN BE REPLACED BY ANOTHER ELEVATOR
  5. CHECK AUTOMATIC POWER SWITCHOVER CONTROLLER IN ELECTRICAL SUPPLY ROOM. THIS CONTROLLER IS LOCATED IN THE SECOND CHAMBER, ON THE WALL ADJACENT TO THE BLACK FIRE PROTECTION CABINETS. THE SWITCHOVER CONTROLLER SHOULD BE INDICATING THAT THE LOAD IS BEING SUPPLIED BY THE GENERATOR
  6. FIRE PANEL ALARMS RELATED TO THE EMERGENCY GENERATOR/POWER LOSS MAY EXIST, ACKNOWLEDGE
  7. NOTIFY SUPERINTENDANT OF POWER FAILURE SO THAT CHECKS CAN BE CARRIED OUT ON BUILDING SYSTEMS AFFECTED. IF THE SWITCHOVER CONTROLLER DOES NOT INDICATE THAT THE LOAD IS ON THE GENERATOR ENSURE THAT THE SUPERINTENDANT IS AWARE THAT SOME PUMPS, MOTORS, ETC. MAY NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN TO PROTECT THEM FROM POWER FLUCTUATIONS
  8. NOTIFY G4S SUPERVISOR OF INCIDENT
  9. NOTIFY MANAGEMENT OF INCIDENT


WHEN POWER IS RESTORED:

 

  1. TAKE NOTE OF THE TIME
  2. CHECK FIRE PANEL, ACKNOWLEDGE/RESET ALARMS AS REQUIRED
  3. CHECK/RESET MAGLOCKS
  4. CHECK/RESET CONDOPLEX AS REQUIRED
  5. CHECK/RESET PC FILE AS REQUIRED
  6. CHECK CHILLER, NOTIFY SUPERINTENDANT IF RESET REQUIRED
  7. CHECK ELEVATORS. FIRE RECALL, RESET MAY BE REQUIRED TO RESTORE NORMAL SERVICE
  8. NOTIFY G4S SUPERVISOR OF POWER RESTORATION
  9. NOTIFY MANAGEMENT OF POWER RESTORATION
  10. PREPARE INCIDENT REPORT
